Not-your-average Creative Director
Uncommon Creative Leadership
I do a lot of things. And I try to do them well. But developing high-performing teams that deliver exceptional work is what I’m best at.
Every team needs structure, even creatives. Through my three-part framework: Ground Rules, Authentic Leadership, and Exceptional Work, I help leaders and their organizations master the art of leading creative minds and have fun while doing it.
Ground Rules
-
Expect alignment, collaboration, creativity, strategic risk-taking, effective communication, and a shared understanding of how our team operates and treats one another. I like to establish clear expectations for communication, collaboration, feedback, and decision-making. This isn't about stifling creativity, but rather providing a solid foundation upon which it can flourish.
-
Structure, even for creative minds, fosters efficiency and reduces friction and doubt. Clear ground rules and values create a level playing field where everyone knows how to contribute effectively. This allows creative energy to be channeled into the work itself rather than being dissipated by miscommunication. Team members experience more fulfilling interactions, psychological safety, and a greater sense of how they contribute to the mission and vision.
Authentic Leadership
-
Expect a leader who shows up as their true self. Authenticity isn't a performance; it's the foundation of how I operate. I strive to lead from a place aligned with my highest values, fostering an environment where team members are encouraged to do the same. I prioritize open and honest communication, a genuine interest in well-being and growth, and always honor vulnerability and humanness. My aim is to inspire others to lead and operate from this powerful place.
-
Authenticity builds trust and genuine connection, fostering an engaged team. Rooted in my experience as a competitive athlete and coach, I've seen first-hand that my vulnerability empowers others, making them feel connected to me. This cultivates unmatched commitment and ultimately drives unparalleled results. People naturally gravitate towards this genuine approach, creating stronger relationships and a culture where everyone is inspired to contribute their best not for themselves, but for the team.
Exceptional Work
-
Expect a relentless pursuit of awesome. Seriously, if the work we deliver isn't exceptional, then why are we even doing it? I like to create environments where we’re focused on the details while moving towards the bigger picture. I like creating work we're genuinely proud of. Expect a much higher bar for quality assurance on teams that I lead. It might take a little longer, but the wait is worth it.
-
Essentially, exceptional work creates a real impact and resonates with clients and target audiences, and that gets noticed. When a team is able to consistently deliver high-quality results, clients are more likely to share their positive experiences. This builds a reputation for excellence, naturally attracting more clients who seek out top-tier creative solutions. Happy clients, sought-after team. They get exceptional work; we get the demand. That's the sweet spot.
